Dr. Adam Dalton is an experienced arts administrator, educator, and conductor with a proven track record of building and managing robust music programs. Most recently, he served as the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, where he oversaw all aspects of a comprehensive athletic band program. In this role, Dr. Dalton managed program operations, budget planning, logistics, recruitment, and staff coordination, in addition to conducting ensembles and teaching courses in the School of Music.
Prior to his tenure at Georgia State University, Dr. Dalton was Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at Marshall University. There, he led a diverse and comprehensive band program that included concert ensembles, the Marching Thunder, and basketball pep bands. His leadership responsibilities spanned strategic program development, event planning, performance coordination, and mentorship of students and staff.
Dr. Dalton’s career is marked by his ability to foster collaboration, create innovative programming, and enhance organizational efficiency in the performing arts sector. His leadership experience extends beyond academia to the pageantry arts, where he has designed, consulted, and adjudicated for marching bands and indoor groups both nationally and internationally. His contributions include working with world-class organizations such as Phantom Regiment, The Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, The Cadets, and Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. He also has an extensive performance background, having earned two world championships as a member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and participating in Winter Guard International ensembles.
A native of Virginia, Dr. Dalton holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Conducting and a Master of Arts in Music Education from The University of Alabama, as well as a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from James Madison University. His professional affiliations include the Collegiate Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
Dr. Dalton is passionate about leveraging his expertise in arts operations, program development, and leadership to create meaningful and sustainable impact within arts organizations.
